How bid.fun works
King of the Hill: outbid the leader, burn their defense, hold the hill when the timer dies.
The game
How does an auction work?
Every auction is a live game of King of the Hill over a real prize (the lot). Place bids to take the hill; every bid — yours or anyone else's — resets the countdown. When the countdown hits zero with no new bids, the last player standing takes the entire lot.
How do I take the hill?
The player on the hill has a defense (HP) built from their unanswered bids. Place more bids in one move than their remaining defense and you seize the hill — whatever you placed beyond their defense becomes your own. Place the same or fewer and you burn that much of their defense instead: they hold on, weakened. You can place up to 100 bids in a single move.
Can I strengthen my own hill?
Yes — that's a reinforce. If you already hold the hill, any bids you place are added to your defense, up to the cap of 100. Reinforcing is a normal move like any other: it costs bids and resets the countdown.
Is a maxed-out defense unbeatable?
No. Defense is capped at 100 and a single move can be up to 100 bids, so the strongest possible hill can always be burned down to exactly zero — and a hill at zero defense doesn't win: if the countdown runs out right then, the last bidder takes it, and the next bid placed seizes the hill outright. Nobody can lock an auction up.
Tournaments
What is a tournament?
A closed bracket of players fighting round by round for a flagship prize. You draft in with a fixed budget of bids, then every round is a fast King-of-the-Hill sprint. Miss a round or run dry and you're out — the last player standing is crowned champion and takes the top prize.
How do I join one?
Open a bracket that's still drafting on the tournaments page and hit Join. Your entry locks a bid budget for the whole run — every round draws from that same budget. Joining costs demo bids (the practice currency), not SOL, and there's nothing to sign.
How does a round work?
Each round is a 10-second game of King of the Hill: place bids to take the hill, and every bid resets the countdown. When it hits zero, whoever holds the hill survives to the next round — anyone who didn't bid, or ran out of budget, is eliminated.
What's the prize ladder?
Every round pays a rising reward — the R1 → R8 → Champion rail on the bracket. Surviving deeper pays more each round, and the final survivor takes the flagship prize on top of everything they banked along the way.
What happens if I miss a round?
You're eliminated. You have to place at least one bid every round you're alive, and you can never spend more than your remaining budget. Pace yourself — the budget is for the whole tournament, not per round.
Do tournaments cost real money?
No. Tournaments run entirely on demo bids — a free practice currency — while the mode is in preview. No SOL, no wallet signing, no risk.
Demo bids & Mystery Boxes
What are demo bids?
The practice currency tournaments run on. They aren't real money, and they're separate from the bids you buy for auctions — they exist so you can play tournaments freely while the mode is in preview.
How do I get demo bids?
Hit “Grab demo bids” on the tournaments page and redeem a code. If someone shared a link with a code in it, it's applied automatically the moment you sign in.
What are the weekly Mystery Boxes?
Every week, the top 3 players on each tournament board — round wins, titles, prizes won, and total $ won — earn a Mystery Box. Finish in the top 3 of any board and a box is waiting for you.
How do I open and claim a box?
Won boxes collect on your profile — open one to reveal its tier. The reward is delivered later as an airdrop; opening just unseals what's inside.
The endgame
Why can't I join this auction?
Once an auction has collected enough bids to cover its lot (break-even), the endgame begins: a short commit window opens and wallets that haven't bid yet are locked out. Only players already in the auction fight on. If you want a seat at the ending, get a bid in early.
What are committed bids?
During the commit window each player can lock bids into a personal spending reserve for the endgame — there's a cap per player, so no one can commit an unbeatable pile. After the window closes, every move you make draws from that reserve. Committed bids are not auto-bids: nothing is placed for you, and nothing is spent until you choose to bid.
What happens to committed bids I don't spend?
You get them back. Once the auction settles, any committed bids you never spent show up as a "bids to reclaim" line in the Wins section of your profile — one click claims them all back to your balance. Your regular bid balance is never touched by an auction ending — only what you committed to that auction is held there.
Winning & collecting
The timer hit zero — did I win?
If you were the last player standing — holding the hill, or the last to bid against a fully burned defense — yes, and it's locked in: the winner is frozen the instant the countdown hits zero. Bids after zero are rejected on-chain and cost nothing. The auction shows “finalizing…” for a short moment while settlement delivers the lot; the outcome can't change during it.
How do I collect my prize?
The lot is transferred to your wallet when the auction finalizes. Some lots arrive as wrapped tokens — wrapped SOL, for example — and those show up under open positions on your profile with a one-click unwrap to native SOL. Everything else lands straight in your wallet.
Bids & perks
What are bids and where do I get them?
Bids are the game's tickets: 1 bid = 1 ticket, spent the moment you place it. Buy bids any time from the top bar — tap your bid balance (the chip with the “+”) to open the shop. Larger purchases include bonus bids on top of what you buy.
What's the gift pill in the top bar?
Your unclaimed free bids, totalled — daily streak, finished quests, VIP rakeback. One tap claims everything at once and mints it straight into your bid balance. If the pill is dim, nothing is ready yet.
What do I get for showing up every day?
Two streaks, actually. Your daily streak grows every time you claim from the gift pill in the top bar — the longer it runs, the bigger each daily claim, and buying bids never resets it. Separately, a buy streak builds up day by day and stacks extra bids onto your next pack — a fixed amount per day, capped per purchase — then resets and rebuilds after each buy. Miss a day and a short grace window keeps either streak alive before it lapses.
How do quests work?
Three quests a day — place bids, enter lots, win. Finish all three and one claim button unlocks for the whole set (in the quests window and on your profile). Quests reset at midnight UTC. No partial claims — done means all done.
Do I get anything back when I lose?
Yes — cashback. Every losing auction sends a cut of the bids you spent there back to you as pending cashback. It pays out automatically with your next pack: a capped amount lands on top of what you buy, the rest carries to the purchase after. No claim button — buying is the unlock. Pending cashback shows next to your balance on your profile and in the shop.
What is VIP rakeback?
Loyalty cashback on everything you play — win or lose. Your lifetime spend sets a tier, and every settled auction returns a slice of the bids you placed there. It accrues on its own; claim it from the VIP bar on your profile once it clears the minimum. Higher tiers, bigger slice.
